SEASONAL SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

ISSAQUAH FOOD BANK

Summer Meals Program

Eastridge Church in partnership with the Issaquah Food Bank is helping to provide a Summer Meals Program to families with students and children in our community. According to the US Department of Agriculture more than 17 million, or almost one in four, American children are at risk of hunger. Washington State ranks in the top 10 for child food insecurity in America at 19.2% meaning that they do not always have access or money to be able to supply enough food to each member for a healthy lifestyle. Many food insecure households must make choices between basic needs (including food) and medical, housing, or other bills. Having to make those choices can mean the difference between a child eating and the family falling below the poverty threshold line.

While in school kids, have access to free or reduced breakfast and lunch through federal programs like the National School Lunch Program but there is a significant gap in participation for programs that feed children when they are not in school. For this reason Eastridge Church is partnering with the Issaquah Food Bank to offer grocery bags of kid friendly healthy snacks to help supplement a family’s food supply during the week. This program is needed within the community to ensure that kids get the proper nutrition during the summer.

Everything at Royal Family Kids’ Camp teaches kids that they are and can be winners! Life may have taught them that they are unloved and unlucky, but we teach them that they can succeed. Even our camp name implies that they are royalty and part of a royal family.

TEEN REACH ADVENTURE CAMP (TRAC)

TRAC is a summer camp experience that offers hope and encouragement to foster children who are 12 to 15 years old that may have suffered abuse, neglect or abandonment. The camp is specifically designed to ensure the success of every foster child who attends camp. Each three-day camp provides a unique ratio of one counselor to every two children, and each camp is single-gender to promote a greater level of comfort between staff and attendees. Through quality time with each child and encouragement, each child leaves camp with a positive outlook on life. Campers explore the wilderness, enjoy a variety of activities and participate in a low-level challenge course that helps the children recognize the importance of self-respect, teamwork and communication while having fun. TRAC offers encouragement and instills in these teenagers that there is hope and a future for their lives.
